KHA Town Hall: Advancing Pediatric Stroke Care in the ED
April 23 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Kevin O’Connor
Assistant Professor of Vascular Neurology
University of Kentucky Department of Neurology
Pediatric stroke is uncommon but can result in significant morbidity and mortality. To improve the triage and treatment of pediatric stroke in Kentucky, the University of Kentucky and Norton Children’s developed a Pediatric Stroke Algorithm. This algorithm is available to all healthcare institutions in Kentucky and provides a framework for triaging children who present with acute neurologic deficits concerning for stroke. We intend for the algorithm to be used in consultation with a pediatric stroke expert either at UK or Norton Children’s, depending on whether you are in Western (Norton) or Eastern (UK) Kentucky. We encourage you to make the algorithm available to any providers at your institution who may see pediatric patients. With your help, we can improve the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric stroke patients in our state.
