Workplace violence is a significant problem in healthcare. This leads to serious health issues and costs an estimated $120 billion annually to U.S. healthcare providers. This presentation focuses on initiatives, such as developing assault rates, providing time off the unit, structured leadership follow-up, and the DASA protocol reintroduction, which were implemented by a front-line staff safety council. These interventions improve staff satisfaction, decompression time, and leadership support, leading to a healthier work environment and better patient care.

Objectives:

  • Identifying and understanding innovative initiatives aimed at preventing violence, supporting victims, improving staff safety, and enhancing overall well-being in healthcare settings.
  • Creating and providing methods of evaluation aimed at improving safety in the healthcare setting to reduce injuries and enhance.

Through unique partnerships within industry and education, UK HealthCare is working to develop more student exposure to healthcare careers, initiate community-to-certification opportunities, and enhance system upskilling opportunities. Within UK HealthCare and across Kentucky, there is urgency to create effective pipeline and pathways.

  • Address the healthcare shortage and describe the community-to-certification pathways and varied partnerships needed to create a sustainable workforce pipeline.
  • Identify potential resources necessary for activation of our efforts.
  • Discuss the structure and outcomes that UK HealthCare is using to meet its workforce strategic needs.
