Career Discovery Club
Launched during the 2014–2015 school year, the Career Discovery Club introduces high school students to health care careers through hands-on demonstrations led by professionals in fields such as medicine, nursing, radiology, and more. Members meet monthly from October through March, with the program culminating in a health care career jamboree.
To date, more than 350 students have participated in the program, with some early members now enrolled in medical school. The Career Discovery Club is a collaboration between the Purchase Area Health Education Center (AHEC), Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) programs at McCracken County High School and Ballard Memorial High School, and hosts such as Murray State University’s Paducah Campus or West Kentucky Community and Technical College. At its peak, the club was recognized as the nation’s largest post under the Boy Scouts of America’s Learning for Life Exploring program.
