Beginning this summer, hospitals looking to maintain or apply for accreditation from The Joint Commission—the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care—will have to adopt a new set of standards for high-consequence infectious diseases (HCID).

Approximately 80 percent of the nation’s hospitals are currently accredited by The Joint Commission.
